Nature Tots Classes

Each one-hour class includes fun arts and crafts projects, stories, and songs that relate to that sessions’ theme. Every class also includes a nature walk where we will explore our surroundings at a preschooler’s pace, making sure to take the time to watch a lizard scurry under a rock, listen to the birds twittering in the trees above us, or spy on a dragonfly hovering over a lake. Classes are attended with at least one parent or caregiver, and younger or older siblings are also welcome.

Classes are provided in four week sessions, so the children gain comfort and confidence in repetition and are encouraged to participate. However, classes can be purchased individually for those who cannot attend a whole session.

Creepy Crawlies

The Creepy Crawlies session will explore the fascinating world of insects and spiders that make their home in our own backyard. Topics have included the butterfly life cycle, differences between insects and spiders, and how an ant colony works.

Green Giants

In this session children will explore the magnificent world of trees. Art and craft projects are made with leaves, bark, acorns, pinecones, or whatever else we can find, as children learn about what makes trees so special and why they are necessary for us to have in our environment. Topics may include identifying differences between types of trees, the life cycle of trees, and the seasonal cycle of deciduous trees.

Our Feathered Friends

In the Feathered Friends session children will learn all about birds and which ones live in our community. Topics may include attracting and feeding birds in your own backyard, life cycles and seasonal patterns of birds, and interesting bird adaptations.

The Senses

In this session we will explore our senses as we learn each week how we can use all of our five senses in the outdoors to learn about nature. Children will discover how we can learn much more about our environment besides just looking at it, in this hands-on session that will especially focus on hearing, smelling, and feeling the world around us.

What Animal Did That?

In this session children will learn to identify signs of animal activity and learn about the animals that made them. Various animal species will be covered, and may include insects and spiders, birds, reptiles and amphibians, and mammals.

Pebbles and Plants

Every child loves collecting rocks and stopping to smell the flowers. In this session, covering both rocks and various vegetation, children will be encouraged to stop and look at different types of rocks and plants species, while learning about how rocks are formed, and how to identify different types of plant life.

Web of Life

In this session children will learn about the relationships between plants and animals along the food chain. We’ll learn about various animal species, which may include insects, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and mammals and how they (and us!) are all connected.
